Last Sunday's Message
Moving into our second year as a church plant meant the identification of potential leaders, elders, and pastors for the future of not only this local church, but of other church plants we envision starting and overseeing. While the Bible is clear that a local church is led by a pastor, it is also clear that leadership is always a team made up of a plurality of elders.
Until a local church has a team of its own leaders, the pastor or lead elder conjoins with apostolic oversight in the planting, guiding, and guarding of the church plant. Rob Wilkerson, currently the lead pastor at Church in the Boro, is partnering with New Frontiers under the apostolic oversight of Carl Herrington, leader at Jubilee Church of Atlanta.
During the time period in which the church plant is being rooted and grounded, the Bible teaches it is the responsibility of the local church body to identify those among them who are laboring in leadership (1 Thess. 5:12-13). As well, it is the biblical responsibility of the pastor to train faithful men (2 Tim. 2:2) and equip them for leadership (Eph. 4:11-13).
Currently there are several men who have been identified as already laboring in leadership in some capacity at Church in the Boro. They have also committed themselves to the life of the body as taught in the Scriptures (Heb. 10:23-25), and submitted themselves to pastoral leadership (Heb. 13:7, 17). And with the assistance of apostolic oversight, Rob is overseeing the development of the potential future leaders of Church in the Boro.
The L.I.D. team meets once a month together for administration, planning, prayer, and discussion. In addition, Rob meets at least once a month individually with each man and/or his family in order to continue building and deepening relationships, friendships, and fellowship, as well as developing leadership skills for the local church.
